What I'm Listening To This Month: February

Hello All! If you are just checking out Playlist Therapy, Welcome! And if you already checked out my first post--THANK YOU SO MUCH--and get ready for my newest mixtape!

In embarking on this project, I decided I wanted to share the music that I love, and especially the music that I'm listening to right now. Each month I will be sharing my personal current playlist, as well as a special themed list (like my first post). Follow my new Facebook Page so you don't miss a post!
And now, without further ado, I present to you what I am listening to this Month:

February Playlist Therapy

Highlights
- Track 1/ Follow Your Arrow by Kacey Musgraves
I am usually out of the loop when it comes to the country music scene, but I am in love with this song! I'm really glad I watched the Grammy's this year, partly because of the Imagine Dragons/Kendrick Lamar mashup performance (and also a little bit for Pharrell's mountain man hat), but mostly because that is where I discovered this song. I think her cleverly coy lyrics are a pretty good representation of the way my generation thinks, and I adore the message of following your own path. A perfect song for all the 20-somethings who were obsessed with Pocahontas as a child (get it- Arrow?)
- Track 4/ Dark Horse (Rock Version) by Our Last Night
A hardcore cover of a ridiculously catchy pop song always gets me. Every. Time. And I admit it, I really do like Katy Perry: I even watched her movie. I also may or may not have stalked her and John Mayer in Santa Barbara... But back to the music! Usually I steal these rock covers from my awesome metalhead twin brother, but this time a mutual friend posted Our Last Night's video on his facebook, and I've been hooked ever since! This song is kind of dark and eery to begin with, making it perfect-- and dare I say better than the original--for this style of music. I just love how this guy screams out the rap portion of the song.
- Track 14/ No More Room by Emily King
My best friend has impeccable taste in music, and I often find myself with my Shazam app at the ready when we are just chillin' in his car. We spend a lot of time talking and/or acting pretty goofy, but there's always something good playing in the background. As well as Hiatus Kaiyote (Track 8), we recently listened to Emily King's soulful album Seven. No More Room stood out to me, not only for its hint of jazz influence, but also for its asking in earnest "Lonliness it's time that I let you go". I think most single girls would relate.

Thanks for listening (literally)!

In LOVE with February: First Post!

Hello All! Welcome to Playlist Therapy's First Blog Post-

We all know what day it is. I don't know about you, but I usually can't stand mushy "Love songs on The Coast" on a normal day- let alone February 14! So I have put together an alternative collection of songs that might be perfect for a casual Single's Awareness day. (All you need is your chocolate candy of choice- Buncha Crunch anyone?!)

Playlist
A Four Letter Word

Highlights
- Track 4/ Old School Love by Lupe Fiasco & Ed Sheeran:
I am absolutely obsessed with cross-genre pair-ups, and especially if it includes two amazing artists. This song is has mellow throw-back feel, not too emotional but smooth and nostalgic.
- Track 6/ How We Love by Ingrid Michaelson:
Ingrid Michaelson is one of my absolute favorite singer/songwriters, and she has so many beautifully intimate songs that go unrecognized (like this one). Her message about how finicky we can be, in love and in life, puts this crazy holiday into perspective for me: "We love to love when it fills up the room, but when it leaves oh we're cursing the stars"
- Track 14/ Love On Top by Beyonce:
I mean, BEYONCE! I can't help but sing along with this one and like to think of it as an anthem for self love (That's right! All you single people out there!) Add in a shimmy and you're ready to take on this Valentine's Day.

Stay tuned for another playlist coming up this month!
