What I'm Listening to This Month: March

Hello All! Along with other excuses to celebrate this month, I'm excited to say I am no longer in my early twenties! I am told that wisdom comes with age, and so hopefully wiser musical choices come with 25 years of experience (as well as getting to pay half the price when renting a car!!). You'll find a little nostalgia and some current radio up-and-comers in my playlist this month:

Highlights
Track 2/ Brand New by Pharrell Williams Feat. Justin Timberlake
I have been all over everything Pharrell has put out since his "Frontin" days. He is huge right now, and for good reason, because this new album looks like it's gonna be good! This track is fresh from his album GIRL, and is the perfect start for the season that has "sprung."

Track 11/ Hold Onto Me by Mayday Parade
This is a song recommended to be my one of my adolescent patients. As a Music Therapist, I work with teenagers with mood disorders and behavioral issues, and the main way I build rapport with them is through music! My favorite thing is seeing their reaction when they discover I not only KNOW the music they listen to, but HAVE it on my ipod for them to pick. Black Veil Brides and Drake are the top choices, but I also get a lot of requests and there are things I'm not familiar with. I definitely would have added this song to one of my burned CDs in high school (the one with Dashboard Confessional and Blink182).

Track 13/ Say You'll Be There by MØ
Three words: SPICE GIRLS COVER. Yessss. This is the perfect throwback with an updated Danish electro-pop spin on my favorite song by the Girl Power group. I actually wasn't that big of a Spice Girls fan when they were big-- 9 year old me was more concerned with boys at that point (the Backstreet Boys that is!)-- but I recognize that their music played a part in my musical history. After all, this was the important time in my life when I chose Christina over Britney.

Tequila Sunrise

This month's themed playlist is inspired by upcoming St. Patrick's Day, my little sister's 21st birthday, and my birthday. The one thing in common between these three things--besides being Irish (my father's side of the family)--is my favorite alcoholic activity.
So I have put together collection of modern day drinking songs to set the tone, sans the green beer.
Thanks for all the support, and make sure to follow my Facebook Page so you don't miss a post!

Highlights
Track 6/ Drunk in Love by Beyonce Featuring Jay-Z
If you aren't blasting this song every time it comes on the radio, you are missing out on the full listening potential of Beyonce's gritty vocals. Yes, I did just describe Beyonce's vocals as gritty- her singing is more raw on her new album and it is really growing on me! I wasn't sure if I liked this song when I first heard it, and the Grammy performance did NOT help, but corny as it may be I am drunk in love with her new single.

Track 7/ You and Tequila by Kenny Chesney Featuring Grace Potter
Probably one of my favorite country songs of all time, this one is perfect for the california girl whose poison of choice is tequila. (Remind you of someone you know?) I'm not particularly the biggest fan of Kenny Chesney, but throw in Grace Potter doing harmony, and I'm sold. Perfect for the drive home after striking out at the local dive.

Track 11/ Little Ole Wine Drinker Me by Dean Martin
A drinking playlist without Deano would be incomplete. I have a personal theory that Dean Martin may have been a better singer than Sinatra. Don't get me wrong: Frank Sinatra was incredible, but it was more about his style and tone than his technical vocal ability. Dean Martin doesn't show off his range in this track, but instead Little Ole Wine Drinker epitomizes his love for drinking and country music.

Thanks for listening (merrily)!
